Where is the Love?

The shooting up at Platte Canyon High has gotten me kinda shaken up. I just wonder how peoples' minds can get so screwed up that they get an idea like that. I mean seriously, what causes people to wake up and say "I think I'll go the the high school, kidnapp two girls, molest them, shoot them if they run, then kill myself today."? I can't understand how this stuff can happen. It's terrible. It's been 5 years since 9/11 and its been around 9 years since Columbine. We were so little when that happened, the only person I know who was actually there was a freshman when it happened, and now she's graduated college.

It just makes me wonder, is there anything we can do to survive? Or are the people who make it 'till they're 98 and die in their sleep just too lucky? How long do we have left? Will I die tomorrow? Will someone I love? It makes it that much more important to live your life like you know exactly when it will end, and like it will be in two hours. Make sure you let the people who are important in your know life that you love them. And if you really do love them, tell 'em, cuz if it doesn't recieve the same result you wanted, then life goes on. But if for some reason it doesn't, you won't have any regrets. And it makes me sick sometimes, how people worry so much about the dumbest stuff. The world will not end if your clothes rip, if you don't have a boyfriend, if you get something other than an A in math. Can everyone just shut up for a second an listen to everything that's really going on? Hear the screams of the kids in Africa from hunger, the bombs in the middle east, and the gun shots in our schools. The crash of metal from a drunk persons car slamming into an innocent teen's, your own heart beating in your chest. These things are all real, these things all matter. It could be your school picture or your best friend's on the news the next evening, and then everything else never matters again. Quit focusing on the things in your life that you don't have, or that aren't perfect, and be grateful for the people in your life, your parents, freinds and teachers. Be thankful for rules so that when these atrocities do happen, there is a consequence. Reach out to the ones who aren't sure if they will get to eat that day, be grateful that you aren't one of them, be happy you have a warm bed to sleep in every night, and remeber: that could all be taken away in an instant.

But the most important thing to do is: be happy. Live like you will not have another chance, take joy in everything. Don't focus on stuff that makes you miserable so that you don't have to look back and say "I wish I had done that" or "What if?". Love your friends, love your family, love yourself.
